I think this is the Male Osprey. Can't wait to go see them in person this year!

There is one egg in the nest. Here the male delivers a new stick while the female looks on.

A second egg was laid yesterday, and the osprey are still working on more.

While we weren't watching, this pair has THREE eggs already! Chatter info says they were laid 4-5 on first egg, 4-8 on 2nd and 4-11 on 3rd. Chatters also worried about netting that is in the nest and the Osprey keep getting their talons hung in it. I assume it's that pile of black we can see in the pic I snipped.

I'm always amazed how the Osprey just kind of levitates on and off the nest. Amazing to watch them.

I went to Smith Mountain Lake State Park and hung out with the osprey while they were wingersizing. The one picture shows just the feet of a lift off. Hang time was about 5-10 seconds.

Yesterday's wingersizing was serious!! One of the osprey fledged this morning at 11:45

This video shows the first osprey to fledge. If you start at about 02:10 you will see s/he gets rid of excess weight before he tries for true flight.

The osprey don't spend much time on the nest anymore. They sure know where the dinner plate is though.

This nest has had troubles. Last year apparently the fireworks scared the chicks right out of the nest.

This year the chicks were doing well, even the smallest one until a week or so ago and apparently a large storm or something happened and the little one went missing and was not found.

The evening of June 6- the morning of June 7 it appears a GHO took the remaining two chicks.

Perhaps they will move the nest location for next year.
