Patti, thanks for the video. That was the first smaller chick that "went missing." Apparently the owl returned the next night to take the remaining chicks. So sad. I didn't know that they had determined it was indeed an owl for the first one.

Yet again this cam has nothing but issues with something taking the Osprey Chick, this season both chicks have perished. I know it's nature, but, still wish they could have 1 good year. This was taken from the chat: sml-osprey 1:09 PM June 5th, Smith Mountain Lake State Park staff became aware that both Osprey chicks were not inside their nest. One chick appears to have been preyed upon during the night and was not recovered; however the second chick was recovered on the ground during the morning hours. The chick was warmed and placed back in the nest and the staff was advised to wait one hour to see if the Osprey parents would return. The chick

Park staff recovered the chick from the nest to assess its health, but unfortunately the second chick passed away upon transport. If the park staff receives more information we will update the public.
