I enjoy an e-publication called Raptor Update, published by HawkWatch International. They are big into migration studies, with paths crossing over Texas along the way.
In their most recent e-pub (the one linked above) there's an article about satellite tracking golden eagles. What do they learn? As an example: "Past research by HWI has already identified invasive Cheatgrass as one culprit responsible for Jackrabbit, and by extension, Golden Eagle decline in the West Desert." And so, "we hope the info gathered from these "youngins" will help get us ahead of a potential environmental catastrophe."
I say cheers for all those dedicated field biologists who climb to gosh-awful places to attach transmitters to the "youngins."
Cornell has just announced its new Raptor Webinar. There will be five webinars, starting Oct. 6th with some basic I.D. While it sounds like pretty basic stuff, I bet we will all learn something from it. Come on, gang, let's sign up!
