I'm interested in finding pictures of owls (and other birds of prey) for artistic purpouses, I can't seem to get a good reference picture or books on anatomy, or even detailed photos.
Hello Edcy. Good to see you on the forum! There are quite a few raptor books around, but here are some of my favorites:
Raptor (Bird) Anatomy: Manual of Ornithology: Avian Structure & Function by Noble S. Proctor & Patrick J. Lynch
Raptor (Bird in General) Behavior: The Sibley Guide to Bird Life & Behavior (National Audubon Society) Illustrated by David Allen Sibley
Raptor Photos for Bird Identification: A Photographic Guide to North American Raptors by Brian K. Wheeler & William S. Clark
There are quite a few other good books, but you might look in your local library for these and check them out before you buy them. They're all available on Amazon.com.
The best online reference is Cornell's AllAboutBirds. You can pretty much count on their reports being accurate. National Geographic also has good info online.
Good luck with your research. Hope you will post some of your art here one day!
This article was posted at Eagles4Kids. It is about the anatomy of a birds foot and what their uses are. There's even a paragraph about Woodpeckers, patti!!
