Do you know what I find amazing? Call it Nature or a Higher Power... This parent osprey knows that shading the babies from the heat is important for survival. This parent osprey also knows what to do about it!!
I learned another impressive osprey instinct today. The little ones are becoming more mobile on the nest, and they knew where to go to cool off. Mom stood there and they creeped and waddled back toward her shady side. Just like warmth, she supplies cool.

Steve and Rachel's little osprets have been named. The 3 P's are Poole, Pan, and Pia. They were invited to the edge of the nest today, maybe to show them what water looks like and then escorted back to the middle of the nest where it might be a weee bit safer!

The cam operator was really 'ON' today. Steve and Rachel were flying all around the cove. I got this cool snippie of a fish being brought in. The kids don't even seem to be hungry.
I looked in on this nest a couple of days ago and thought the chicks were gone! All this junk these Ospreys bring in really does serve a purpose doesn't it.
All the flaphoppin and helicoptering has paid off. One of the osprettes made it to the anchored boat out there. Rachel and Steve (Mom and Dad) have been keeping a close raptor eye on the fledgling.

There was a lot of excitement and action at Hog Island this evening. Two of the osprets found their way to the boat while the last one stayed back on the nest to practice more.

The last osprette flew today. The chatters said she ruffled, spread her wings, and glided away. There was a video posted on chat by Arlene Beech. I'm glad someone got that on video. Fly Free and High Pia, Poole, and Pan. May the fish meet you at the surface!!

Pia was at the nest again today. She was calling for food and Steve (dad) brought her a nice flounder. She thanked him.... said Grace... and flew away with it.
