A new cam has been installed, and hopes are high that we will finally be able to watch the Wetland eagles through a breeding season. The eagles have been "on duty" since September, when they returned to begin nestorations for the new season. This will be their third season at the newly relocated nest in an Oncor utility tower.

Here are some snips of Mom and Dad, as they go about their duties. Like any eagle pair, they often disagree on the exact placement of a large stick.

Dad looks on as Mom quickly plucks the feathers from a large black fowl.... most likely an American coot, a frequent visitor to the North Texas waterways.

It won't be long now!! Be on the lookout for an egg any day (or week) now....

First, Dad brought an American coot to the nest for Mom, and watched her devour the whole thing. Then....

We're on pip watch! Any day now there should be a tiny new hatchling to watch:

And we have the first hatchling. 3/2/2017 at about 2:58 p.m. nest time.

The sky is cloudy today and prevented our solar-powered cam from showing us the hatch of JBS9, but the cam came back on around 2:00 p.m., just in time for us to watch Mom feed BOTH of her eaglets. They are looking good and going for the fresh fish Dad has provided.

It sounds like they could use a good battery back up to collect energy for the days without solar power. Maybe a wind turbine?

The whole family dines on American coot. While both Mom and Dad are adept at feeding the kids, Dad does a better job of cleanup. He picks up all the crumbs -- nothing goes to waste!

The eaglets are 19 days old now, and scooting about the nest on their tarsi. Dad brought fresh fish for breakfast this morning.

Today, the cam operator decided to show off the cam, which has great resolution! Here is JBS9 showing off his cute little face. Pin feathers are just beginning to show.
