Quite a bit of activity has begun at Decorah North nest. Mr. and Mrs. North can be seen occasionally eating in the nest. It looks like they have brought in some material that is covering the green grass growing in the nest. Fishing must be good, as the stream has attracted numerous sub-adults and sandhill cranes and (of course) Mr. and Mrs. North. Changes made to the cam during the off-season have resulted in excellent quality viewing and panning. Today, the cam crew zeroed in on this sub-adult (not DN1). From the yellowing on the bill, I would say maybe a 2-year-old.

When I first looked at the picture, I thought I was looking at a Red Tailed Hawk.

After a few weeks of visitation by sub-adults and fishing with sandhill cranes, the Norths are getting down to business refurbishing their nest. Here is Mom North surveying her kingdom, and a second pic of the Norths (Dad is above).

In case you haven't been following Decorah North eagle cam, take a look at the size of the nest. That's Mom North in the nest. She has been placing sticks up the ladder limb, the limb DN1 first branched to last year. Maybe Mom is hoping to build a sturdier ladder? Or head off the early climbing attempts of the 2017 eaglets?

Looks like we haven't kept up with this thread during the season. These eagles had a clutch of 3 eggs; all three hatched, but the last and least of the hatchlings did not survive. One week ago, DN4 was accidentally knocked out of the nest by DN5. After scavenging in the meadow and the stream for days, DN4 finally developed the flight skills to return to the nest. He came up over the tree and dropped into the nest like an avenging angel. This video will show you how things stand right now between the two siblings:
